Last Friday

dim bar
caught up in the buzz of the bar
I let the poison bring out the beast in me,
pour me another señora,
dim lights and dim-coloured jars of lager
amidst the smiles, movement
and laughter of otherwise
hard-grafters beautifully reducing
ourselves to dimwits to
turn down the dimmer switch of the
light that burns the eyes on
Monday mornings and rots the
fibre of the soul until
Friday evenings when click click
bang bang, we shoot down the demon
of drudgery and step outside of
the dungeon and out into the sky
that starts at our feet and carries on
up into the clouds and beyond the stars,
tonight I’m gonna be infinite too
as I cast my gaze over you
and gravitate towards your body and
struggle to keep my distance,
I let the poison bring out the beast in me
with my words slurring I’m ridiculous,
waking up the next morning
thinking that I’ve probably fucked it all up,
I said silly things, I got too touchy,
I pushed you away when I just
wanted you to love me.

i ran

from a small remote town on
the banks of the narrow river,
cold water running over fresh
grey rocks and white houses
facing the water in ascending
rows that stretch onwards and
upwards across the sloping
green mountains, I ran.

I ran at a calm and steady pace,
knowing that the hills would
only get steeper and the body
would only grow heavier and
the pain would only burn stronger
as on and on I go and leave
the dreamy morning town
behind me, I ran.

I ran amongst other runners
and felt everything that
they felt but none of us heard
anything except for the guardian
angel voice tucked deep away
inside the cores of each of our minds,
deafening us from all
surrounding sound, I ran.

I ran as my mind and body battled,
the body crying stop,
the mind screaming to carry on,
yelling for victory and rallying the limbs
to carry on until finally they embraced,
the dominant mind seducing the
submissive body and
becoming one, I ran.

I ran past the coast and
welcomed the deep blue breeze that
kissed my skin as the distant finish
line grew larger in size with every breath
and on I ran as the inner beast inside me
roared my battered body towards
the old town hall where crowds gave us
love and wanted nothing in return.

Pure Night

sweeter now that the air is
damp and silent and my friends,
those raindrops those pure little oceans,
lay on the other side of the window in
the stillness of the night.

old boy in the flat below plays his
music loud and I hear nothing except
for the distant warm buzz of the baseline,
humming from beneath these
wooden floorboards.

empty is the night, purified from all
the troubles of the drudgerous day,
as clear and empty as the empty cans of
beer at the bottom of the rubbish bag
that hangs in the corner.

and every star smiles down upon
the millions of street lamps that light
the roads that join the towns and cities
and glow from space like diamonds
scattered across the murky canvass.

She was sitting alone and
sipping a beer and smiling,
escaping something or
awaiting someone

and I glanced at her in
awe of something sweet
and gentle that only I
could see,

and eventually the
scales tipped from
me being still to
approaching her quick

and all barriers dissolved
fast and naturally as we
traded life stories quicker
than I had ever,

opening wide those
windows to the
the rooms where all
the old boxes are kept

and our hands held and
it was perfect
and our lips met and
it was perfect
and our skin touched and
it was perfect

and I took her back to
my room and
treated her body as
perfect as it was

and felt her
and heard her

and tasted
sweet joy
that was

and I knew
we both wanted
to stay there

as I held her perfect
frame in my arms
and kissed her

but those rosary beads
around her neck
would tug her back to
the old community

and force her to stay
away from the outsider
who could never be
in her circle.

Last Night

Last night
I spent the best
night of my
life with you,
sitting on the
edge of the silent
pier after sipping beer,
to have you here in
my arms and gently
press my lips against yours
as only the moonlight
shines on the smooth
ripples of water
and fishing boats sparkle
their lights in the distance,
the fresh and cold
morning dew on the
wooden surface where
we rest
as I kiss you and hold you
close and tight until
the sun rises
from out of the ocean,
the best night of
my life.

Each Life

Each life,
each love,
each friendship
is born and
grows to its
full strength
before it
weakens and falls
and fades
like each tree
on this planet
which eventually
will also perish
like each and every
star in this

As You Are

When you speak to me
about your pain
I wanna take it out
of you,
kiss you gently
on your golden skin,
heal those wounds,
push life back
into you,
hold you,
love you,
let you know
your safe
and let you know
you needn’t fear
cos you’ll never feel
such grief again,
your ex-lover caught
a bullet in his neck and
you were left alone in
tears and carried on
in stress
though I can never
bring back
the life you
once had
I can do my best to
make you feel
as precious
as you are.
