Walking Over Cervantes

coin-on-the-ground
Cervantes smirks at me
from a ten cent piece,
a golden euro coin
glinting from the surface of
a narrow pissy street
in deep Spain,
“keep trying bitch”
he says
“you’ll never write
a book as good as mine”
“pipe down” I tell him
“before I kick your head
down the fucking drain”
and the night
is still young
and the air
is still mine
as I kiss this
beer in hand
and stroll
beneath this
field of stars
thinking
oh how I love
the night.
