Luvcage

bird cage
If I didn’t
love you so much,
I wouldn’t feel
so imprisoned.

I’m the powerless bird
locked inside the cage,
dreamily gazing up
at the beautiful blue sky
that I’ll never
be able to touch
but I’ll always want you.

My wings were meant
for flying with you,
my colours were meant
to shine among yours,

the sky,
my perfect environment,
the cage,
my days in confinement
where I can only dream of
spreading my wings and
reaching for you,
my sky,

singing sweet songs
of sorrow
that no one understands
as you pass me by
every day and night,
never noticing
I’m there,
never feeling
my pain,
never hearing
my distant cries.
