Café in Arroios

with patches of shade
and sunlight

shining though
leaves of trees above
my table.

Tweeting birds
accompany me,
empty chairs.

Passing by
women in crisis,
even men.

Always calm,
weather is priceless,
sky is blue.

Strong coffee
on my tongue and throat,
passing time.

Local smiles,
familiar frowns

mysterious ways
as always.

Sunny days,
dark interiors,

oh how I love and
pity you.

Like a girl,
beauty external,
fear within.

One she goes,
the everyday stroll
of Lisbon.
