Café Império

café império
The Império,
locals drinking at late night
either beer or wine.

Nice from the outside,
luxury interior
inside the café,

art deco designs,
chairs, tables and a dancehall
made for movie stars,

shiny marble floors,
famous actors grace the walls,
staff in shirts and ties.

Beneath the surface
of café império
something feels worthless.

Far from luxury,
faces of the local poor
pass the entrance door,

watched by dead actors,
old and tragic characters
drink beer to forget.

Late at night I rest
on a stool and drink red wine,
killing pain and time.
